Indian Super League
IMG-Reliance’s vision is to promote and develop Football in India. This vision was brought to life with the inception of the Indian Super League (ISL) in 2014. The Indian Super League is India’s unrivalled football championship which kicked off on the 12th of October 2014. The ISL has attracted a huge fan following across the nation, making it 3rd most watched football league in the world in terms of attendance. With the perfect mix of top class international players as well as promising Indian talent it has proved to be a success on the field as well as off it.
The inaugural winners of the league were Atlético de Kolkata, while Chennaiyin FC were the winners of the second season. The third edition of the Hero ISL saw Atlético de Kolkata reclaim the trophy, winning their second in three years.
India’s leading industrialists and celebrities from sports as well as the Indian film industry have heavily invested in the league’s ten franchises based in the following cities: Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Guwahati, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune and the latest edition, ISL 2017, will see the additions of teams from Bengaluru and Jamshedpur.
IMGR separately signed a 15-year partnership with All India Football Federation (AIFF) in order to radically restructure football in India. This allows IMGR all commercial rights, which include media rights, sponsorship and advertising rights, franchisee rights, new league rights and any other commercial rights attached to any of these properties.
This agreement grants IMG Reliance all commercial rights to football across all football properties controlled by AIFF including but not limited to the national teams and all current and future professional leagues. Such rights include media rights, sponsorship and advertising rights, licensing and merchandising rights, franchise rights, new league rights and any other commercial rights attached to any of these properties.
The league is committed to investing in stadium refurbishment in the ten identified venues and also to a strong grassroots development programme that will create a platform to groom football talent in the country. With a mission to revolutionise the sport, the Hero ISL is positioned as a high quality and dynamic league that will elevate Indian football to an international level.
